UN Agency Warns: 40% of Gaza's Population at Risk of Famine

The United Nations agency dedicated to Palestinian refugees has raised an alarm, stating that insufficient aid is reaching the besieged Gaza Strip, putting 40 percent of its population 'at risk of famine.' This dire situation persists due to Israeli restrictions on the entry of essential aid trucks into the enclave.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reiterated on Thursday its concerns, emphasizing that the besieged region is 'struggling with catastrophic hunger.' The agency renewed its appeal for a 'humanitarian ceasefire' as continuous Israeli airstrikes struck from the northern to the southern parts of the enclave.

The UN reports that over 80 percent of Gaza's 2.4 million population has been displaced from their residences. Many currently reside in overcrowded shelters or makeshift tents located primarily in the southern areas, in and around the city of Rafah near the Egyptian border.
