New Labs Position Abu Dhabi as a Global Biotech Hub
Abu Dhabi has launched Biosphere
Labs, the GCC’s first commercially scaled shared laboratory facility, located
in Masdar City. Developed in partnership with M42 and Attentive Science, the
project aims to accelerate biotechnology innovation by lowering the entry
barriers for startups and researchers.
Key Features and Strategic Goals
- Capacity & Onboarding: The facility
supports up to 36 companies, with tenant onboarding starting in late July
2026. Significant interest exists, with about one-third of the space
already reserved, largely by US biotech firms entering the Gulf.
- Investment: More than $2 million has been
invested, including $1.5 million in equipment provided by Attentive
Science.
- Focus: The project aims to foster genuine
intellectual property creation within the HELM (Health, Endurance,
Longevity, and Medicine) cluster, which was established in 2025.
Regulatory Advantages
The facility offers a fast-tracked
regulatory process through the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, which promises
28-day application reviews and waived fees to attract international firms.
