India vs Pakistan: Asia Cup Super Four match as it happened

The match was delicately balanced at that stage, with Pakistan needing 31 off 15.

Asif would end up scoring a useful 16 off eight.

Rohit ended up giving Arshdeep the final over which he bowled rather well despite the earlier error, taking the game right to the penultimate ball.

Zaman had suffered a similar fate in last week’s match when he fluffed a chance at slip off Kohli in the first over when India were 1-1.

Kohli recovered from the early drop to score a useful run-a-ball 35 to help guide India’s victorious chase.

We thought we were lucky to witness the exciting chase last week. But it looks like it is Pakistan’s turn to celebrate as they pull off a wonderful chase that was measured in response.

Much of the credit goes to Rizwan for setting up the platform with his well-played 71 at the top of the order, before Nawaz slammed on the accelerator with his 20-ball 42 to put Pakistan in an excellent position to chase down the target.

Pakistan win by five wickets!

Iftikhar, the new batsman, is on strike and manages to eke out a missed yorker attempt down the ground as Khushdil presses him to run two.

The boundary rider under pressure ends up messing up the collection of the ball, affording the batsmen precious extra seconds as they seal a famous victory.

Pakistan 182-5 in 19.5 overs.

How lucky are we to witness not one but two exciting run chases by both sides in the space of a week!

Pakistan face a spirited Afghanistan side who can take solace in beating Sri Lanka in the opening match of the tournament, and always have the potential to pull off the miraculous win with the kind of talent they have.

India will take on Sri Lanka on Tuesday, with the match holding extra weightage given today’s result.

A lot of fans seem to have made up their mind that India and Pakistan will feature for a third time in the final next Sunday. But as has been seen through the tournament, anything can happen.

Will we see these two again on Sunday? We will have the answer soon enough.

Do check out our post-match wrap of today’s action and have a good day, afternoon, evening, wherever you are. Thanks for joining!

India captain Rohit Sharma: “It was a high-pressure game and you can’t let anything slip by. When there was a partnership in the middle with Rizwan and Nawaz, we were still calm and believed [in ourselves]. But the partnership went longer than we hoped and they played brilliantly. There will be times when things don’t go to plan but I do believe in the potential of these [younger] guys.

“It was a good learning experience when you play games like this. Usually, 180 is a good score on any pitch but if you don’t take wickets in the middle it will always be tough.”

In the first half of the second innings, India looked to be in control as their spinners in particular were excellent at varying their lengths and keeping the batsmen guessing.

It was a different story in the last 10. Nawaz’s arrival gave Pakistan the momentum they needed as the chase whittled down to the final stages.

One big talking point will certainly be the dropped chance of Asif in the 18th over by Arshdeep when the batter had yet to get off the mark.
