Trump Administration Considers New Travel Restrictions on Dozens of Countries
The Trump administration is considering imposing broad travel restrictions on citizens of dozens of countries, as part of a new ban. According to an internal letter obtained by Reuters, the administration has identified 41 nations for potential restrictions, categorized into three sectionsl.
The top ten countries, including Afghanistan,Iran,Syria,Cuba and North Korea, would face a full visa suspension. This means that citizens of these countries would be barred from entering the United States.
In the second category, five countries - Eritrea,Haiti,Laos,Myanmar, and South Sudan - would face partial bans. These restrictions would affect tourist, student, and other immigration visas, with limited exclusions.
The third category 26 nations, such as Belarus,Pakistan, and Turkmenistan. These countries would be evaluated for a partial suspension of US visa issuance if their governments do not address deficiencies within 60 days.
The proposed travel restrictions are part of Trump's immigration crackdown, which he initiated at the start of his second administration. The measure echoes his first-term ban on travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries, which was affirmed by the Supreme Court in 2018.
